Here is the problem: Hard disk A is small, and has now filled up, getting space issues. Harddisk B is larger, so i replicated partitions and filesystems on it, and then i did an rsync -avz and moved everything onto the second larger hdd there is a 3rd smaller hdd, that is not really of consequence to the moving, only it has /usr on it.
so i need to install grub 2, so i can start using the newer larger hdd. machine details: dell optiplex330, with ubuntu 10.04-server i have already been thru these (and its the most comprehensive of all google searches) and everything they suggest: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD and i fail at the chroot /mnt although if i ignore it, i manage to get into grub, and to do everything else, and -expectedly- i fail after the reboot, as i get GRUB error 17 again. Now left with trying a 64-bit Version of Ubuntu 10.04 Live CD, but until then, please help. -- Love indeed conquers all..... Brian A. Ssennoga
