Stephen,

not entirely true, some of the core developers of Mambo left to create Joomla,
but that wasnt the finally nail, that hit the coffin,
some acquisitions that went awry, later on

wordpress is becoming popular because with 3 clicks, of a button, you have a
site (lightweight for that matter)
Drupal has become more powerful due to some dynamics that are lacking in the
joomla community, In the Drupal community, large organizations have contributed
back custom modules

The Drupal shops are also better at marketing, for example acquia (Dries
Buytaert (Drupal founder) company) has a product they market (Drupal Gardens)
that promises to deliver heaven on earth, until you start to use it, and
discover that these cloud based models, are for the meek

In the joomla world, i have mainly seen private companies, build custom
modules,
that are sold as addons, a trend i have not seen in Drupal

having said that, i cant say one platform is better than the other, i would not
be different from someone who tries to square a circle, they all have flaws,
and
they are designed in such a way (by humans), that you are able to eliminate
some
of the bloat (they give u the code),

Cavin, Mambo was replaced by Joomla, which seems not to be holding its
ground very well against Wordpress and Drupal J Stephen
