Simon, I guess its about representation KACITA (K'la City Traders Association) presented one voice & galvanized trader to action, walk2work & all the rest will continue to achieve results. The Navision guys are in business & have to make sales. If the government officials don't know any better (read 'kick-backs') and have no compelling reason, then there'll be no chance any time soon. E.g Where in Uganda has a FOSS ERP (100+ nodes) been successfully implemented for comparison?
Where the COSS idea has been correctly implemented, the fruits (e.g. iHub in Kenya) continue to be seen. Many of us have discussed this issue in private, but we need to take it to the next step. We should not wait for some magic funding, but consider collective investment. Thx to Kiggs, Reinier, Simon, Kyle and all the rest who continually contribute to the lug, the iHub experience can replicated here too... PS: EACOSS can't succeed without strong FOSS community involvement. Create an app if the need is justified for not just for the sake of creating a Ugandan FOSS app. For example someone has been doing a great job of using pootle to expand the luganda language pack. I notice Zental has almost been 75% translated on the 2.2 branch. Fantastic! One area we have tried unsuccessfully to push is advocacy in government, I know a few enlightened souls do exist but that is a long way from making it formal policy. As we speak I hear gov. ministries are rolling out a large Navision based ERP. Is that really the best option? Can we not offer something more viable? Cheaper? Secure?
