The same people who preach about fare thee well to brick and mortar stores told us how distance learning, e learning will eliminate brick and mortar schools
am not sure how that has panned out ________________________________ From: Paul Bagyenda <[email protected]> To: Uganda Linux User Group <[email protected]> Sent: Mon, July 25, 2011 6:34:12 PM Subject: Re: [LUG] RIP Borders Against better judgement: Here is what we might call a more measured view http://www.economist.com/node/21523256 On Amazon and outsourcing, I colleague was just showing me his Amazon EC2 account, and how they setup and and scale their (Linux) server instances. These are mostly LAMP boxes. If I were a low-level Linux sys admin, this brave new world should scare me. I admit I used to hear "marketing" whenever somebody said "cloud", but this Amazon thing is impressive for its ease of use. Indeed same guy told me of a chap who is a VP in charge of IT at a massive financial institution. The guy tells him how they used to have hundreds of sys admins, and are now down to five, thanks to this sort of thing. So, not something to be sniffed at. P.
