Without getting too philosophical I would say that to achieve Freedom
must be a success in itself.

The fact that we now have achieved a truly Free operating system is a
great success in my opinion. I didn't fully understand the "article of
faith" remark but took it from earlier comments that Paul made that he
was referring to the pursuit of Software Freedom as an end in itself,
such as in the GNU project.
