Hi Richard For begginers have a linux cd ready and be ready to experiment with everything. For example if you have a cd of Ubuntu / or Kubuntu it has a help link where you will find most of what you need to know in Linux.
It as well depends on what you want to use linux for, a basic user or a more advanced one depending on that you will find the appropriate help. But for starters first get used to using the linux platform.
