Friends, IDLELO5 is in its 3rd day (#idlelo5), and since i have been here, am intrigued by the fact that Uganda has never hosted IDLELO!
Its held every 2 years, and the bid for IDLELO 6 is now between South Africa and Kenya. So i am already scratching my head on what we can do to host IDLELO7 in Kampala. We will need alot of things, and a whole lot of money. We would need to pull every single connection we have, to pull off one of the biggest and best IDLELOs that the African continent has ever see. Now i suppose some of you are wondering, what is IDLELO? Please visit http://idlelo.net The thing for me is, what would IDLELO present to Uganda? What would a major FOSS conference present to University Students, SMEs and generally the Ugandan Community? How about Government? Yesterday we were talking about Kenya's Open Data Portal, and who knows, we can use this opportunity to have government showcase this... Whereas the work is ALOT, for now the question i would want to ask is this: Can we mobilize the FOSS Community in Uganda well enough to work as a team, to host IDLELO? Can we mobilize our resources well enough to get Government to back hosting (or atleast Supporting) of this event? Can we please have a response on this? 2016 is 4 years from now, but in 2 years, we will need to have prepared a strong bid to host IDLELO 7, and that homework starts NOW. -- Love indeed conquers all.....
