Unfortunate Brian. I went down that road and almost cracked my skull with frustration. Maybe "until 2012" meant at the start of the year and that is why there are no updates. I installed SME Server 8.0 Beta6 which worked well for about seven or so months until recently when I brought down the install for something else. Beta 7 was released too. Else, we might all need to wait for a stable.
