Microsoft has taken some steps toward open source. The Microsoft of the 90's doesn't exist any more. So, in a way the Microsoft we learned to loathe is already half-dead.
Even so, I think Microsoft is on the way out. They boarded the mobile/tablet train too late to get a strong foothold, and they will die out along with dedicated personal computers as we know them today.
