Also, the command-line is user-friendly. It is simply a tad more picky about whom it calls "friends".
I have no objections against the GUI altogether. My grandmother is 76 years old, and she uses a GNU/Linux distribution with a nice user-friendly interface. My cousins, 7 and 10, use Edubuntu. These people belong to the age groups I would expect needs a GUI for everything. The rest I assume knows how to read and type well enough to enter a line of text into a black box now and then. I think it is a fair assumption.
