Pulseaudio 1.0 sucked. Lately however it has been fine IMHO.

I dont think pulseaudio is the problem, it works great when you hit the sweet 
spot as far as hardware choices. But every once in a while a friend or relative 
will drop off an old computer (off brand or custom buit) and i wont be able to 
get audio working properly :(

Great stuff. I love a good flame war. One thing is I dont think OS-X killed the 
linux desktop. I think they just snuck into a void that was left due to 
bickering and in-fighting. OS-X desktop has its own problems (file management
