Paul,
The problem is that if Google Docs and Spreadsheets, plus other online offerings become the norm, then there is no need for Microsoft Office. This will affect Sharepoint/Exchange/SQL Server usage which still make money whether run in Windows Server or virtualized in a Linux box. Office is the foot in the door, the rest of the products are the vendor-lockin. Indeed and that's why I think (for them) it is best to keep it Windows only. The money for Office is in the enterprise. And there you want to use Office to keep customers moving from Windows X to Windows Y every so many years. And buying Exchange and Sharepoint etc., and running stuff on Windows Server because they are comfortable with the ecosystem. Why level the playing field? And who does that much actual office work on the tablet? There one can deliver a smaller 'office' without losing much. P. On Feb 06, 2013, at 11:06, Stephen S. Its just about the Office money . not Linux love. Remember since Hyper-V support is built into the Linux Kernel (with Microsoft support) plus Mono for .NET this may be easier than a complete rewrite.
