Seconded. Localisation is definitively not a waste of time. Language is only part of what a localisation package does, so even if one were to concede on that point, the usefulness of localisation still remains.
I do agree that for a power user, having to rely on a native tongue when working in such a relatively closely-knitted community as the Internet is a bit silly.
