generally it would be better to take vanilla kernels for our present releases, 
since there are not yet any sanity checks for backported features from newer 
releases.

Anyway, can you check the modules have been installed into the proper dir 
in /lib/modules/...? Also, did you run "depmod -a"? If everything is fine, 
what does dmesg say?
