Hi Jon, Can you provide the lustre-release git checkout you used - from your attached lustre2.1-rhel61-error.txt it looks like the issue may be related to kernel/lustre versions and I will try to reproduce you work exactly.
I'm going to refresh the walk through to add in RHEL 6.1 - and I appreciate your feedback and mkinitrd comments.
