Talking of ivory lutes, there is a "whyt lute of bone" (presumably ivory) listed in a 1609 inventory of Wollaton Hall, erstwhile home of Sir Francis Willoughby. That lute is mentioned by Jeffrey Alexander and Robert Spencer in their facsimile edition of Francis' manuscript: _The Willoughby Lute Book_, Musical Sources 13 (Kilkenny: BoethiusPress, 1978).
