Hi Vance, so it seems I could be considered ignorant and uncultured.
We had teachers a long time ago back in school admireing modern art. It was easy to get good notes. Just take a tin, batter it and then write a longish description of this work of art declaring it as indictment of the modern consum terror. On the other hand I know very moving modern compositions. F.Kleyjans wrote a piece about the last minutes in the life of a hunged. Ever listened to the south american music of M.D.Pujol? Our dear Stefan Lundgren is writing modern music for the lute and is creating small masterpieces for the instrument. Just go and buy either his editions or one of his CDs! Meinhard's compositions use a modern tonal language which perfectly (okay - that's my opinion) transports the lyrics into our times. Just to name some which are in a context to lute/guitar.
