was octave tuning european in origin or could it have arrived with grandpa' oud from the mystic east?
the 3rd course of my 5 course charango has an octave tuning and it sounds terrible - particularly when played with a plectrum. if it had one or more, complimentary octave courses, as in 7, 8 or more course lutes, it might sound more appealing. regards - bill
