Subject: [Cambridge, MA]: Lute and Guitar Opportunities in Mixed Early Music Ensembles


The Cambridge Center for Adult Education offers lutenists and guitarists the 
opportunity to play in mixed Renaissance and Baroque Ensembles, starting at the end of 
March, at Career Source, 185 Alewife Brook Parkway, Cambridge (across from the Fresh 
Pond Mall). This entire site is wheelchair-accessible, and there is free onsite 
parking. Career Source is also located only a block from the Red Line �T� station. 
Rides back to Harvard Square after class can be arranged. 

 

The RENAISSANCE ENSEMBLE, for players of intermediate level and above, is open to 
players of both lute and guitar (of at least intermediate level, able to play single 
lines and to play chords to accompany dances), as well as to players of recorder, 
viol, Renaissance reeds, and  Renaissance brass. This group meets on Wednesday 
evenings, from 8:00-9:30, beginning on March 31. The term ends with a concert, 
scheduled for Wednesday, June 2. 

 

The BAROQUE ENSEMBLE accepts *advanced* players of lute or theorbo able to play 
continuo, as well as advanced keyboard players and advanced players of other bowed 
string instruments (violin, viola, cello), and wind instruments (recorder, flute, 
oboe, bassoon). This group meets on Thursday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:30, beginning on 
April 1. The term ends with a concert, scheduled for Thursday, June 3. 

 

Students need to register for these ensembles *before* the opening class, preferably 
at least a week before. The Baroque Ensemble requires permission of the instructor,

The Winter, 2004 Baroque Ensemble will be giving their free end-of-term concert on 
Thursday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. in a conference room at Career Source, 185 Alewife 
Brook Parkway, Cambridge, MA (across from the Fresh Pond Mall). There is parking on 
the site, which is also close to the Alewife �T� stop on the Red Line. They will play 
trios and trio sonatas by Boismortier, Mozart, Pepusch, Quantz, and Telemann. People 
who are interested in performing in this group are encouraged to come to this concert, 
which will be followed by a reception for performers and audience. In case of bad 
weather on March 18, call the Cambridge Center at 617-547-6789 to determine whether 
the Center will be open that evening. If not, the concert will be given on Thursday, 
March 25, at the same time and place.
