If you are tempted to go further, a little toothpaste on a soft cotton string would polish it. Then again, taking a cue from golf balls, a little 'texture' may help. And though this may seem obvious, when creating a channel for the string be sure to have it point to where the string eventually takes up on the peg --especially on the chanterelle.
