Good morning, Howard. It was a group that had some success in touring and recordings. They called themselves something like "The First Piano Quartet." But I'm not certain what their instruments were. But pianos sounds right. They were actve in the 50s or 60s. Or maybe even earlier. And may have had a Hollywood connection.
In light of our "recent" discussion of the influence of early music on the Boston Symphony Orchestra's use of serpents in some works, I was reminded that there is a group who calls themselves (perhaps after the piano quartet) "The First Ophicleide Trio." I think that that trombonist in the BSO is a member, although the group is London based. Las Vihuelas de Duluth or Vihuelas de Minnesota doesn't quite fly. But how about Las Vihuelas de Londres? That's a classy name.Or Vihuelas on the Thames? (less classy).
