You'll no doubt get the links to the article by Linda Sacey on the HIP need 
for _long_ theorbos, Benjamin posted it last week in this list and in the 
interview in the Lute Society magazine she also talks about that.
Now for things that fit in airplanes as well as my hand: I have a 76cm 
theorbo by Stephen Barber. It's all in gut, and I have no problems with 
string 6, but 7 is doubtfull and 8 (still on the fingerboard) is too dull, 
especially compared with the diapasson 9 and downward. Lately I am 
contemplating making it 7/7 in stead of 8/6, because of this. I have tried 
Gamut Gimped on 6 to 8, too stiff and metallic, tried Gamut Pistoy, too 
fexible and buzzing, now I have Gamut Lyon (a much stiffer gut string) on 6 
and 7, and Gimped on 8. For the time being.
