Can you play the Britten Nocturnal very well on a
19th century guitar? How about the Ginastera Sonata?
Dyens? Brouwer? Takemitsu? I could perhaps see
Takemitsu's music fitting well on a 19th century
instrument, but the others seem to demand a heavy ol'
modern guitar.
Strangely for a guitarist, about the only type of
music I do NOT play much is (can it _really_ be?!?!?)
19th century music. Yep, no Sor, Giuliani, Coste,
Regondi. I do rather like Aguado and Mertz, but I
kind of straddle that huge batch of music - I play a
lot of Renaissance, Baroque... and then straight on to
the 20th century. I don't think it would make much
sense for me to invest in one of those 19th century
deals.
