> Thank you very much for telling the history of your monumental FCdM > edition!
In my music analysis lessons we had to anayse many different kinds of music, but our teacher was most fond of Bach. He was one of the men that wrote _the_ book on Bach and numerology, concluding that you can read Bach's date of death in his works. Every lesson would be concluded with a quick analysis of a Bach fugue, in which he would subtly add up entrances of the theme, or the total number of notes, always coming up with the right numbers to prove whatever it was he wanted to prove to us that day. Anyway, anything 'less' than Bach would be frowned upon as seriously inferior, and it's only merit would be that we would see the glorious perfection of Bach's music even better. One day I presented him with an analysis of a fantasia by Francesco, with the music from Arthur Ness' edition, of course. The man started playing it at the piano and was actually impressed with the quality of the music! To please him even more I inserted in my final presentation of my work an analysis of Madonna's 'True Blue'. But that's another story. ;-) David - agreeing with my teacher about Bach btw. Obviously, he's God. **************************** David van Ooijen [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.davidvanooijen.nl **************************** To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
