Dear Peter,

> Does anyone know what the time signature in Dalza (Intabulatura de Lauto,
> 1508) Recercar f7r means. The first symbol is an O with a dot in the
> middle and it starts in triple meter 1 1 1 | 1 1 1 | ...

In mensural noation the O is for tempus perfectum , the dot for prolatio maior,
where
the tempus is the ratio of brevis/semibrevis (=3 in the case of
perfectum) and prolatio the ratio of semibrevis/minima (= 3 for maior).

(1 stands for a
> single flag). In measure 29 a c-slash (as in alla breve) followed by a
> big 3: 1 2 2 | 2 2 2 2| ...

Perhaps then tempus imperfectum cum prolatione maioris.

The transliteration to "our measures" could be 9/8 in the first part,
6/8 in the second.

best wishes
Bernd
