Dear David, Not half as difficult as Dutch typed fast, or Japanese for that matter.
In answering Neil's initial question by supplying a list of chords for the lute, one can see why there must be better ways of approaching the lute other than solely through chord shapes. I particularly liked the chords with seven flats in the key signature, i.e. what you get when you drop a grand piano down a pit shaft.
