Partially guilty as charged!  I had assumed, however,
that instead of "EE," Ray meant to type "EM," as in a
BA in "Early Music" (although I didn't know the
program).

I would still stand by the advice to get a theorbo if
at all possible since its THE early music ensemble
lute.  But if that is absolutely out because of
financial, time, and commitement constraints, any kind
of 7, 8, 9, 10 - even 6 - course lute will do.  If
your own lute is at all functional, it might be best
to just use that rather than try to adjust to the
theorbo-lute.
