For me, I have no problem with canned performances. They fulfill a different purpose than live performances. And, I prefer my canned performances without errors because I listen to them more than once. What turns me on about a live performance, is the sound. You just cannot get the same sound out of speakers, no matter how good they are, as a live performance space.

Dear lute folks,

in another tiny thread(?) of talks I wrote:

Anyhow, in the end, to me the only real performance is the
_real_performance_ - everything else is just "canned" performance... ;-)

To separate this idea of my ads of my "tube performances", I just
would like to hear your views of this matter. I really do appreciate and
give value to the talks about technically best means and best tools to
make good recordings. It is important. But, but, ...

But as I said, to me (nearly) any live performance of music is by
definition more valuable than any "canned" one! In the "can" you
usually find all the notes of the music in paper - in the "live" that
is not often the case. But in the "canned" version there is no
reaction - not even knowledge - to/of the audience. Of course not,
because there isn't any! Well, in canned _live_ performances there WAS
once an audience, but they are not any more there, when I empty the
can...

So: Let the live performances between the musician(s) and the audience
live long and flourish! :-)
