Historical tablature used headless notes, but this made it difficult when music required notes of longer duration than semibreve. Some printers had symbols for breve, a circle on the stem or a left-going flag are known. I am not aware of any tab symbols for long or Maxima. Tab in system with mensural was often presented in diminution (eg, tactus on different notes in each score), you can do this yourself, have the tab in 3/4, the flute in 3/2. Or use the older signs (O/, O). > So is there a way to say "show the note heads" in the tablature > rhythm? perhaps choice of font would accomplish that. Some publishers used flags with heads. Not sure these were taken from a music font, may have been special for the tab; length of stem may have been shortened. It was not a common practice tho, headless flags seem to have been prefered. -- Dana Emery To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
