Subject: [LUTE] Little Lines

   Dear All,

A friend of mine has asked me this question:

When a seventeenth-century copyist abbreviated a word and indicated
it
by writing a line over the last letter, rather than a dot after it
(e.g. Preludiu for Preludium), is there a proper term to refer to
that
   line?

I don't now the answer. Can anyone help?

   Stewart McCoy.
