Hi All,

Sorry - as it seems, my last mail's link to the description of Linard's
painting is too long to work properly.

You can get there by googling the phrase "Vanites par Jacques Linard
Culture" and have it as the first hit.

You arrive at another description (less detailed, but more in context)
   by googling the phrase

"[1]Miroir, miroirs : Les cinq sens de Jacques Linard "

   Best

Betreff: [LUTE] Re: Strange lute in French painting

      Hi,
Wasting some time one may collect tons of "strange" lutes from the
internet in many variations, the most strange one I found so far is
      this:
      Try [1][3]http://www.klassiskgitar.net/imagesr1.html
I am refering to the the Painting "Young Lady with Lute" by Racinet
which might require some consideration regarding the instrument as
   well
as how it is held... When looking at the pictures on this site,
   ladys
often seemed to play the lute or guitar with the top upwards, kind
   of
awkward position as it seems like lady on horseback with both legs
   on
one side - maybe awkwardness was intentional to signify a difference
   to
      the serious male activities? (???)
Wasting some more time on Jacques Linard, I simply googled the name
   in
the "picture" mode and found the following description of the
   painting
brought to our five senses by Nicolas (unfortunately in french):

There is another painting by the same painter on the five senses
   only
but not four elements (seems much less skilled):

Recently we wasted some time discussing the lute and sex. So what
   about
      the following information I found:
"(Jacques Linard) was among the first French artists to combine
successfully the female form with still-life elements, as, for
   example,
in Woman with Flowers and Woman with Fruit" What about the idea that
   he
painted the lute with the female form in mind, then went on to the
   real
      thing and joy of painting...
Have to work... urgently... (thanks for all your lovely divertions
   from
      seriousness!)
