I think the bird has seen the handwriting on the wall (so to speak) and
   is making good its escape before becoming part of the stew.
   David, I must be blind; where is the oboe?
   The instrument on the table near the peg head is a soprano recorder.
   It looks just like the Moeck renaissance recorders from the
   1970's/80's.
   Again, just my two cents or less...
