Congratulations with your job. This is such great music to play!

Learn to play continuo. Really. Not only will it save you tons of
time, it will enable you to play tons of music, and, for the job at
hand, it will be _much_ easier, honestly, as you can leave out that
which is difficult (it's Bach, after all ...) and it will give you the
opportunity to play more where it's easy. Buy the Baerenreiter pocket
score and just dive in. Start with soprano aria Ich folge dir and alto
aria Es ist vollbracht. Both will be required. The tenor aria Erwäge
(after your obligato in the bass arioso) is another story, also
required!, but it is more difficult, so here a tab might come in
handy. Go for the intermediate solution: three staves, top to bottom:
soloist, empty tab and figured bass. The best of both worlds at one
glance. I'll send the Erwäge aria with a reduced bass, as there's no
need to play all the fast notes, and to play continuo from that
muddled score is hard.

enjoy! (and study well ...)

David - only three St. John Passions and one Markus this season
