Thank you Sam and Ron,
Your answer, Sam, makes sense to me.  The fact that Ron agrees makes it all the 
more sensible.  I never expected the transition to thumb under to take so long. 
 Practicing this morning, it occurred to me that practicing some single line 
passages with t-m (making sure that t stays under m), as well as with t-i, 
might aid attaining a suitable hand/finger position.
