Perhaps I can add a bit to this discussion. On Wayne Cripps's Lute Page I have posted a number of "Finding Tools," which can be useful in answering questions such as Martyn's. The manuscript Mus Ms 40032 formerly in the Prussian State Library in Berlin is one of those lute tablatures which were thought to have been destroyed in World War II (soldiers were seen burning books to keep warm near the castle where they had been stored for safekeeping when bombs began falling on Berlin). They turned up about 15 years ago in Krakow,* and Mus Ms 40032, perhaps intended for vihuela, is in many ways one of the most fascinating of the Jagiellonska tablatures. Many of us look forward to the edition mentioned by Miles Dempster now under preparation by Dinko Fabris and John Griffiths.
For the "Finding Tools" see [1]http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute/Sources.html > "Martyn Hodgson" <[2][email protected]> wrote: > >> Is there an online listing WITH concordances of the >> contents of [Mus Ms 40032] G. Crona suggested one item from my lists, the catalogue of lute manuscripts at the Jagiellonska library, "1992: Dieter Kirsch." It contains a title list with tablature incipits of all the works in Mus Ms 40032, as well as a few concordances. A better place to look especially for concordances would be volume III/2 of "1991-9: Christian Meyer" on the "Finding Tools." According to the World Catalogue** 74 libraries have the Meyer's Sources (for Martyn, including the British Library and the university libraries at Cambridge, Oxford and Glasgow). The indexes to Christian Meyer's inventories are on line (I give the link [3]http://www.bnu.fr/Smt/sommaire.htm), and include extensive, updated lists of concordances for each piece. One can use the indexes to satisfy Martyn's wish for on-line information. Go to the on-line Sommaire, and the list of indexes about half way down the page. Select "titres", click on each letter of the alphabet, and use 40032 as search term. "A" will give you 4 "hits," and "B" 6, most with several concordances. Voil`a. ajn ================== *The acccount of the missing sources (which included the autograph MSS to Magic Flute, the finale to the Ninth, etc.) is told in Nigel Lewis, Paperchase: Mozart, Beethoven, Bach . . . The Search for their Lost Music (London: Hamish Hamilton Ltd., 1981). x + 246 pp. **See "Literature and Modern editions" on the "Finding" list. A fantastically useful tool. Enter your ZIP Code or state to locate nearest libraries having the desired item. Also be sure to use the filters in the left column to narrow your search. You can join the World Catalogue and make your own private bibliographies. Another world-wide search engine is the Karlsruhe Connection, also listed nearby. It is also useful in searching for books to purchase (see last column ); that's how I found and purchased a copy of Paperchase. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Miles Dempster" <[4][email protected]> To: "Lute Dmth" <[5][email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, December 22, 2010 10:37 AM Subject: [LUTE] Re: [LUTE] Krakow, Biblioteka Jagiellonska, Mus. ms 40032 (olim Berlin) > John Griffiths is likely to be your man for this info: > > [1]http://www.vihuelagriffiths.com/JohnGriffiths/Barbarino.html > > On 2010-12-22, at 10:10 AM, Martyn Hodgson wrote: > > Is there an online listing WITH concordances of the contents of this > Ms? > -- > To get on or off this list see list information at > [2]http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html > > -- > > References > > 1.
