What a nice piece! What's the consensus on ornaments for this type of
piece? WOuld it have been decorated like the ML Lutebook?
Nancy
Things being a little slow on the lute list, I thought I would
offer an
interesting courante from Besard, 1617. This source, originally
engraved in copper and rather messy in appearance, has a rich
combination of very interesting music. The ensemble pieces are
rife
with errors and reconstruction is a thankless task, since it's
difficult to sort out the spicy dissonances from what is just
plain
poor composing. The third section of the book has some fine
music
scattered throughout, and the fine courante by Sieur de la Barre
is a
favorite. Written for 8-course lute, the high positions are not
impossible to manage and the piece is a pleasure to play.
You will find the courante at the top of the list on our page of

Enjoy.
