I replied to Rob off-list, but I forgot to say something which might be interesting to everyone:

Errors in German tab stick out, because there are no lines - if it's the wrong symbol it's obviously completely wrong, whereas in French or Italian tab you can get the correct symbol on the wrong course and hardly notice.

There are a few possible confusions, though, the one which springs to mind being being "1", meaning open 5th course, with "l", meaning third fret 5th course, which is sometimes quite believable.

Well worth learning, anyway.

    Exactly.

Well, it's fun to do, and it is always nice to work from facsimiles.
But yes, I could do it a hundred times faster in French tab. It has
always been a no-go area for me, or even no-reason-to-go, but I'm
taking an interest in early German lute music, and it seemed the
respectful thing to do, and not without interest.

    Anyone here fluent in it?
