Here is a note from Ed
Hi Nancy,
You could forward this. I get messages on my Mail program but because I
don't know the outgoing server address here, I have to send mesages out
from Gmail and that account is not registered with the lute list
Thanks for thinking about me. As you know, I'm in Grass Valley, CA at
the moment. There was just a shake in Saitama, Japan where I live.
Yukari grabbed the cats and went under the kitchen table. The
electricity did not go off, so I could talk to her last night via
Skype. She could talk to her father in Akita briefly but could not
reconnect. He is without electricity and all his appliances, including
heat and stove are electric, so we are concerned about him. My daughter
is okay in Tokyo but probably her electricity is off.
I have not been able to hear much on the news about how much warning
people in Sendai and surrounds actually had or how much loss of life
there was. I think the event was far enough off shore that people got
fair warning. I haven't heard anything to the contrary. Communities are
extremely wired up in Japan. They have speakers on the electric power
poles and police go around with loud speaker cars to announce things.
You can rest assured there won't be any looting and communities will
work together for the common good. Japan is undoubtedly the best
prepared country in the world in terms of earthquakes, but I don't know
about tsunamis.
