Dear Martyn and others,
years ago I measured the density of KFN's and KFG's. I went to a
pharmacy and asked them to measure the weight of a piece of such
strings. Then I calculated the density of the material, knowing the
diameter, length and weight - using the "sub-calculator" of my 1st
version string calculator:
http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/wikla/mus/Calcs/wwwscalc.html#P1
I got the density 1791 Kg/m3, which is clearly more that gut (about 1300
Kg/m3).
In my calculators I call these strings "carbon".
I do not know, if Savarez has changed their material since, but to me
this density parameter has worked well...
Best,
Arto

Further to my query regarding Saverez Alliance strings, I asked Saverez
for a descrition of them and a conversion table (or factor) from plain
gut to Saverez Alliance.
For those with any interest their (speedy) response is below.

Dear Mr Hodgson,
Thank you for your e.mail of august 2,
We produce plain KF Alliance strings from gauge .33 to .91 mm and
multicoated
strings from .95 to 2.10 mm.
The multicoated strings have a plain KF core wound and coated with the
same
material to obtain thicker gauges.
The previous reference system used KFN for plain strings and KFG for
multicoated ones.
Today we only use KF followed by the gauge from 33 to 210.
It is difficult to give you a precise correspondance between gut and
and KF Alliance. The density of KF Alliance is just a little higher
than gut, therefore it is advisable to use a KF diameter slightly
thinner than gut.
We keep in touch.
Best regards.
