Hello!

Perhaps somebody is interested in the topic of the Hoftänze, specially of the
Benzenauer. Here's the link to a (German) catalogue of all therefore known
Benzenauer sources (my friend Dr.Eberhard Nehlsen just found two new
sources...). The main text with the commentaries (also in German) will be
printed soon, but the catalogue as a PDF file gives a good starting point, I
hope. It is written for an interdisciplinary readership, therefore includes
some basic informations.

The Benzenauer is a good example for the connection between popular
tunes/melodies (Benzenauer Ton) and instrumental versions (polyphon and lute
versions). We can say that there is no "main version", but a wide variety of
adaptions. The question of the left-hand chord fingering in connection with
different lute sizes in the lute sources and the possibility of lute ensemble
practice is also discussed.

Enjoy!

Andreas
