So do I. In most music written between 16-18 century one can find some kind of schemata that was popularly used, but Bach was incredibly creative in using it. Besides, as someone told me long time ago: there are no bad compositions, there are only poor performances :) As for BWV 997 and 998 you can try David Ledbetter's "Unaccompanied Bach" (Yale University Press) All the best
