There are far too many components out there to recommend specific ones. From what you say, though, I would say that you don't need full range speakers; speakers that will reproduce the lowest frequencies, say, of an orchestra. This is good, since such speakers are necessarily more expensive than speakers that will reproduce the frequency range of, say, 50 cps on up. So a quality pair of 2-way (tweeter and mid-range/bass) mini-montior speakers should do you fine. You could go for bookshelf mounting, or perhaps better, stand mounting out in the room. Keeping speakers away from room boundaries lessens the affect of reflected sound from the walls - generally a good thing - but having a wall close behind them may increase the bass response. At any rate, my best advice is to think first of quality speakers, and then of the electronics to drive them. A decent integrated amp or receiver may do you fine. For a source, CD players are not expensive, but many now are using co! mputers for their music servers. Another way to go is to get a decent pair of headphones. Perhaps more bang for the buck in terms of the quality of sound as related to money spent. Best, Ned
