Mudarra's texts are in several different languages, not just Spanish.
Stephen Haynes prepared an edition many years ago which was never
published, but I assume that Matthew's new edition will build on the
work that Stephen did.
The songs are very interesting and their accompaniments, unlike most
songs of the period, are not just the lower parts of a vocal piece
transferred to the vihuela but idiomatic and independent parts which are
challenging and interesting to play. Let's hope the new edition
encourages more people to sing these songs.
You can hear them on a CD (on Gaudeamus, if it's still available) by
Catherine King and Jacob Heringman.
