Hi Terry, It is worth it from a performance point of view, although as you say, the IDE drives are more expensive. Depending on how much you plan to use the laptop CF may be an option, I have an old benq celeron mobile 1.6GHz/1GB ram running on a CF (8GB) and it speeds things up a lot in the boot department especially. And with CF at 32GB or greater at reasonable prices these days...
