Bob, As a gay man, I take offence to such a derogatory word as "poof" and being that it is no longer the dark ages, and this list is for communication about Linux/open source activities (not homophobia banter), then the comment is inappropriate. In fact, "free speech" is far to often used as an excuse to exclude people under the guise of "speaking freely".
This is not madness, and its time people like yourself understood that someone you communicate with could well possibly be gay, and would be upset as the word " poof" is used.
