I wonder, perhaps it is a CODEC, version, profile or some other specific
issue, H.264 [it seems that] is an evolving standard; there have been a
number of versions as detailed in this Wiki entry [1].

Why not 7.9 now?  That is the current version of Wheezy (old stable).
