Since I'd been able to play youtube and vimeo clips without any version
of mplayer installed, you're probably right - it's some "improvement" in
the Apple Quicktime clip which was indigestible.

It may be age-induced decrepitude, or the cumulative effect of several
concussions in a number of car collisions over the years, but the
ability to concentrate for hours (as I did for 30 years in software
development) is a thing of the past. Now I'm happier cutting and carting
8 - 10 tons of firewood for myself each year, and a similar amount for
my brother who's on his way out with brain cancer, and relaxing in front
of the wood heater with a book.

At some stage, I'll try (again) to get printing working on Debian 7.8.0.

(Apologies for the detailed truthful answer.)
