hi folks,

after a few years of using windows for my daily needs, I'm considering switching back to Linux.  Any thoughts on this <https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpadx1/thinkpad-x1-carbon-gen-10-(14-inch-intel)/21cb0002au>laptop (Lenovo X1 Carbon)? Any known issues running Linux on it? I've used ThinkPads before with Linux with good results.

Whilst I don't use that model I use a Lenovo Yoga (8 Core, 16 GB RAM, SSD). I don't think I even realised at the time of purchase that it folds flat into a tablet. Linux has been my desktop/laptop OS for a long while (15+ years?).

The reason I mention this model is that I think I paid ~$600 for it new at Officeworks. The price of the linked device is ~$2,300. I'm not sure what you will achieve with the extra specs.

I use a USB C dongle to connect a big screen for coding, the battery life is excellent and the gaming performance ticks that box too. Admittedly it is smaller but I guess it comes down to your use case. I either work from home with my set up or I am traveling - this is the only device I've had that is usable on a plane and has the battery life to match. Past devices would have the screen tilted down because of the tray space.

Pros: Cheap, fast, works, more than I need.

Cons: Fails to come out of sleep mode often (Ubuntu * feel free to suggest a fix :-), I don't like the keyboard but generally I use an external one anyway

I just wanted to mention it so you might consider saving $$$ if this was an option for you.

Thanks

Piers
