I'm speaking from a free software advocacy perspective. My observation
is that local groups tend to rely on proprietary software for
communication and collaboration, including whatsapp, zoom, google docs,
discord etc.. When I suggest free software alternatives to them, I often
find it hard to suggest specific instances, because they do not have the
resource to self-host and there are no instances in Australia for local
organisations. So it would be great to set up such things. I'd say
video-conferencing (mumble/BBB), chat (xmpp/matrix/mattermost), document
collaboration (etherpad) are of the highest priorities.
With this agenda in mind, I find the proposed structure of
mentor-volunteer a bit artificial, and potentially less productive than
a more free-form collaboration, not without goals like "setting up infra
within two months such that a BBB instance can be set up for an
organisation instantly" etc.
But perhaps that is not the same as your agenda :)
