Hi folks,

I'm setting up a non-profit community web hosting organisation in Merri-bek
(the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne). The intent is to setup a few local
sever racks, ideally powered by renewables, at a couple of different community
facilities, and to provide hosting of common open source software for local
organisations (who might need wikis, groupware, CMSs, etc) and individuals (who
might need email, mastadon, pixelfed, etc).

As part of this, I'm also looking to skill up local volunteers and give them
agency to work one projects to setup new types of hosting. I'm look for
volunteer help two areas:

1. Mentors. I have five of us already, but I'd love a few more experienced
technologists to be in our mentoring group, able to answer questions from our
volunteers in a way that helps them build problem solving skills (so, always
doing it for them, but pointing them in the right direction). These mentors
don't need to live in Merri-bek.

2. Volunteers for the first project sprint. Each volunteer sprint is a three
month cohort, with a showcase at the end. While I want this to be accessible to
people new to tech, at this stage I'd also accept more experienced folks with a
passion to setup some important OSS service for the inner north. So far I only
have Dokuwiki and Matrix running, so if you want to see your favourite project
hosted, drop me a line. Ideally most of these folks should live, work or
otherwise have a solid connection to Merri-bek.

regards,

Jade
